Brow Lift

A brow lift is a surgical procedure used to raise the eyebrows and eliminate deep wrinkles of the forehead and glabella. The effect of a brow lift is to reverse a tired, aged appearance of the upper face and restore the brows to their youthful anatomic position.

Did you know…

that a brow lift can be done endoscopically (with cameras) using a series of very small incisions hidden in the hairline?

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate for a brow lift?

You may be a candidate for a brow lift if you have low-set eyebrows or deep lines and wrinkles on your forehead and around your upper eye area. Dr. Kulkarni will help you determine whether a brow lift is right for you based on your individual anatomy.

What should I expect during a brow lift procedure?

Brow lift surgery is done under sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Kulkarni will make the incisions and elevate your entire forehead in order to raise your brows. She will then release the ligaments that hold your brows in place and bring them up to a more youthful place.

Will I need to follow any post-operative instructions following my forehead and brow lift surgery?

You will receive specific written instructions prior to your procedure. You’ll awaken from your procedure with your forehead and brow area wrapped to help prevent swelling and bruising. The dressings and head wrap will be removed in the office a couple of days after surgery. After the dressings are removed, you will be able to shower normally. Bruising and swelling is normal, and resolves within a week after surgery. Most patients can return to non-strenuous work within 1 week after surgery.

Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty

An upper eyelid blepharoplasty is a procedure to remove the extra hanging skin from your upper eyelids to restore a rested, youthful appearance to your eyes. This surgery is commonly combined with other surgeries including brow lift, lower eyelid blepharoplasty, and facelift.

Did you know…

that upper eyelid surgery can be done in the office under local anesthesia with you awake during the procedure? A numbing shot is placed in the upper eyelid, after which you can’t feel anything during the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate for upper blepharoplasty ?

You may be a candidate for upper eyelid surgery if you have baggy extra skin on your upper eyelids. In some cases, the extra skin blocks your ability to see out of the upper outer corner of your eyes. This procedure will help restore your visual fields to normal.

What should I expect during an upper eyelid procedure?

This procedure can be done under local anesthesia with a numbing shot or with IV sedation. Once you are comfortable, Dr. Kulkarni will make the incisions in your upper eyelid and remove the extra skin. She will place the scar in a natural upper eyelid crease so that it doesn’t show once it is healed. You will go home the same day and return for a follow up visit for suture removal in 5-7 days.

Will I need to follow any post-operative instructions following my forehead and brow lift surgery?

You will receive specific written instructions prior to your procedure. A small amount of bruising and swelling is normal and should resolve in a few days. Keep your head elevated and apply ice to reduce the swelling.

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty

A lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a procedure to remove lower eyelid bags and create a smooth, youthful appearance to the lower lids. This surgery is commonly combined with other surgeries including brow lift, upper eyelid blepharoplasty, and facelift.

Did you know…

that lower eyelid bags will never return after surgery? The ligament that creates the under eye pouch is cut during lower eyelid blepharoplasty surgery, so the bags do not return, even as you age.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate for lower blepharoplasty ?

You may be a candidate for lower eyelid surgery if you have bags under your eyes. In many cases, under eye bags are genetic, and you may notice that one of your parents or grandparents has them.

What should I expect during a lower eyelid procedure?

This procedure is done under IV sedation or general anesthesia. You will be asleep for the procedure, during which Dr. Kulkarni will make a small incision under your lash line or inside your lower eyelid. She will cut the ligament that creates the lower eyelid bag and remove or reposition the puffy fat. After removing any extra skin, she will close your incision with stitches and you will wake up in the recovery room. Your eyes will be blurry because of the lubricant used in your eyes during surgery.  You will go home the same day and return for a follow up visit a few days later.

What should I expect after surgery for lower eyelids?

You will receive specific written instructions prior to your procedure. Bruising and swelling is normal and resolves after about a week. You may get black eyes from the procedure, but these will resolve within a week or two. After the first week, you can cover any residual bruising with makeup. Sleep on 2 pillows and apply ice packs the first night to reduce swelling.

A facelift – also known as a rhytidectomy – is a cosmetic surgical procedure used to restore a more youthful appearance to the face and neck. A facelift primarily addresses aging in the lower face and neck. During this surgery, deep lines and creases are smoothed, jowls are removed, and neck skin is tightened. A facelift will take about 10-15 years off your face.

Did you know…

that facelifts are among the top five cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States each year? More than 100,000 of the procedures are done in America every year – the majority of which are performed on women.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a candidate for a facelift?

You may be a candidate for a facelift if you are a healthy non-smoker who is interested in rejuvenation of your lower face and neck. Some patients report a “turkey neck” appearance or complain about jowls along the jawline.

What should I expect during a facelift procedure?

Your surgery will either be performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Kulkarni will place the incisions along the crease where your ear meets your face, so that your scar will be well-hidden once everything is healed. Your incision may extend upward or downward along the hairline. The deep layers of your face will be tightened and extra skin will be removed. The neck is typically tightened through a small separate incision under your chin.

Will I need to follow any special post-operative instructions after my facelift?

Your face and head will be wrapped up after surgery. This bulky dressing will be moved the first day after surgery. A smaller dressing will be applied which will help control the swelling. Bruising and swelling is normal and resolves in 1-2 weeks. Most women are “restaurant-ready” after 2 weeks, though final swelling can take up to 6 weeks to resolve.
